The GEMA MDC 230 bundle module + immersion heater Tehp23015 combines an MDC 230 heating module for central heating systems with a matching 1.5 kW electric heating cartridge for 230 V. The bundle is intended for the supplementary heating of heating water in suitable open or closed central heating systems.
It is suitable for heating support, supplementary heating, frost protection support, or for utilizing excess electrical energy in the heating circuit, provided that the hydraulics, electrical design, and safety devices are professionally planned and implemented.
Technology & Equipment
The MDC 230 module forms the hydraulic basis of the bundle. It features a steel tank with 50 mm polyurethane foam thermal insulation, a connection stub KP with female thread G 1 1/4" and a heating cartridge connection with female thread G 1 1/2".
The immersion heater Tehp23015 provides the electric heating output. It operates at 1.5 kW at 230 V, has an immersion length of 360 mm, an unheated zone of 80 mm, a tubular Incoloy heating element, an adjustable operating temperature of 5 to 70 °C, and a safety temperature limiter at 87 °C.

The bundle creates a clear combination of heating module and matching electric heating cartridge. This allows the module, output, voltage, and installation situation to be directly coordinated with each other.
For operators of water-based heating systems, the electric supplementary heat can be particularly helpful when an existing main heat source is to be temporarily supported, a heating circuit is to be protected against frost, or excess electricity is to be sensibly integrated as heat.
System Integration & Compatibility
The MDC 230 is integrated into a parallel heating circuit on the flow or return line of the main heat source. The medium must be water or a glycol mixture suitable for heating systems with a maximum concentration of 50%.
For operation, a minimum flow rate of 86 l/h is required at 1.5 kW. An additional circulation pump must be provided to ensure this flow rate and be connected in parallel to the heating cartridge. In addition, the system must be protected against an impermissible pressure increase.

Installation
The hydraulic connection is made in a parallel heating circuit on the flow or return line of the main heat source. The pipe routing must allow complete filling, reliable venting, and adequate flow.
Installation, electrical connection, and commissioning may only be carried out by appropriately qualified specialists. Before switching on, the heating module and system must be completely filled and vented; the additional circulation pump must ensure the required minimum flow rate.
Notes
Operation without water is not permitted. Dry running can damage the heating element and lead to dangerous operating conditions. The housing of the heating cartridge must not be covered or thermally insulated.
A functional safety valve with the appropriate opening pressure is required. Fusing, cable cross-section, residual current protection, switching devices, and control connection must be designed on site according to power, network type, and applicable regulations.
