Product Overview & Area of Application
The GEMA MDC 400 heating module 4.5 kW 400 V is a bundle consisting of the MDC 400 heating module and the matching TEHP45 / WPI-4.5 electric heating cartridge for central heating systems. It is integrated into the heating circuit as an electric supplementary heat source and supports existing heat generators in open or closed heating systems with appropriate safety devices.
The bundle is suitable for applications where heating water is to be additionally heated electrically, for example for reheating, frost protection support, emergency heat support, or for utilizing surplus electricity in the heating circuit. The specific integration must always match the existing system, hydraulics, and electrical design.
Technology & Equipment
The MDC 400 module forms the hydraulic base body of the system. It is designed as an electric instantaneous water heater or heating module for central heating systems, has a steel tank with 50 mm polyurethane foam thermal insulation, and is operated with water or a suitable glycol mixture up to a maximum concentration of 50%.
The TEHP45 / WPI-4.5 electric heating cartridge provides the electric heating output. It is designed as a screw-in heating element with integrated insulation separation, temperature controller, safety temperature limiter, and protection rating IP54. The heating cartridge is intended for 4.5 kW output at 400 V.
Everyday Benefits
The bundle combines a separate heating module with a suitably dimensioned electric heating cartridge, thereby creating a clear solution for additional electric heat input into the heating circuit. This can be particularly interesting for operators when an existing central heating system is to be specifically supplemented.
By considering the module and heating cartridge separately, the hydraulics, electrical output, and installation situation remain traceable. This facilitates the technical review before purchase and supports clean coordination with the specialist company, system planning, and the existing heating installation.
System Integration & Compatibility
The MDC 400 heating module is integrated into the parallel heating circuit on the flow or return line of the main heat source. The module is intended for central heating systems and can be used in open or closed systems, provided the appropriate safety devices are in place.
For the 4.5 kW version, a minimum flow rate of 257 l/h must be ensured. For this purpose, an additional circulation pump must be provided, which is switched together with the heating cartridge. A functional safety valve with an opening pressure of 1.0 MPa is required.

Installation
The hydraulic connection is carried out professionally in the parallel heating circuit on the flow or return line of the main heat source. The system must be set up so that the heating module can be completely filled, safely vented, and operated with the required minimum flow rate.
Installation, electrical connection, fuse protection, cable sizing, and commissioning may only be carried out by appropriately qualified specialists. Before switching on the power supply, the system, heating module, and heating cartridge must be completely filled with water or a suitable heating medium and vented.
Notes
Operation without water is not permitted. Dry running, insufficient venting, lack of minimum flow, or an unsuitable pump setting can cause damage to the heating element and lead to safety risks.
The required safety valve, additional circulation pump, electrical protective measures, and on-site connections must be checked on the system side. This product description does not replace a heat load calculation, system planning, or electrical design.
